Judges citation

In partnering with industry, Algorithmic Abodes demonstrates strength in its process of responsibly resolving housing security against a backdrop of economic and climate challenges. Deep engagement with methodology considers efficiency in modular design and fosters solutions with industry.

Carbon is addressed at the outset and empowers homeowners to make informed decisions according to their needs. This impressive and pragmatic project embraces technology and the poetic in its consideration of nature.

Designed for a rural setting, there is potential to explore this proposition in an urban environment.

Project description

Algorithmic Abodes explores the intersection of architecture, automation and environmental stewardship. Automation is used to optimise measurable aspects of residential architecture, such as efficiency, precision and sustainability, while allowing the architectural design to transcend into something unmeasurable, fostering a relationship between people, the land and its environment.

Beauty in architecture is explored, not as a static attribute, but as a living relationship between people, nature and design. The project embraces the challenge of designing spaces that do not merely occupy the land but coexist with it, nurturing a balance that is both functional and poetic.
